I am deeply saddened to share some really difficult news about the passing of our MSE friend and colleague Michelle Trostle. Michelle passed away unexpectedly on February 20, 2019 while vacationing in Jamaica. Michelle was an incredible and important part of our MSE family and she meant so much to so many of us. It is always hard to process a sudden loss like this – especially someone who was such an integral part of our days here at MSE.
After a decade working in commercial real estate businesses, Michelle began her career with the Washington Capitals and MSE in 2000 and most recently served as Senior Vice President of Administration for MSE’s professional sports franchises and properties in which she was responsible for overseeing the Washington Capitals practice facility, MedStar Capitals Iceplex. In this role, she managed all administrative needs of the Capitals/MSE offices located within MedStar Capitals Iceplex and was the go-to person for all things at the facility. Michelle worked with members of the ownership group on specific ownership needs and requests, including all travel and security requirements during the NBA and NHL Playoffs. In addition, Michelle oversaw MSE’s facility resources department and was instrumental in assisting the Capitals hockey ops department with special events such as the NHL Draft.
She was often the first person that new players would meet when arriving in D.C., and she also worked closely with players’ wives and families to assist with housing and community connections in the local area. Simply put, Michelle was the cohesive glue that connected the Capitals to the entire organization. Michelle lived and breathed Washington Capitals hockey and was such an incredible and important member of our lives.
To honor Michelle, we will observe a moment of silence before tonight’s Rangers vs. Capitals game here at Capital One Arena. I know you all join me in sending our prayers, thoughts and condolences to Michelle’s husband Mark, her daughters Taylor and Jordan, and to her friends and teammates in the Caps organization.
I’m sending my thoughts to every one who’s lives Michelle touched. We will all feel her loss powerfully.
