Congratulations to the Mystics on an Incredible Season

What a magical run.

Congratulations to the Mystics players, coaches, staff and fans on a record-breaking season. During the “Summer of Champions” here at Monumental Sports & Entertainment, you did not disappoint. Your hard work and perseverance are inspiring and has certainly laid the foundation for years of success (and trophies) to come.

Even more exciting than this season’s playoff run in the District was the way in which our community embraced this historic Mystics’ moment. From filling up three different local arenas to the incredible support on social media from the likes of Wizards All-Star Bradley Beal, Redskins rookie running back Derrius Guice, the incomparable David Aldridge and many, many others, I think it is safe to say we have ushered in a new – more egalitarian – generation of fans who simply enjoy watching these highly-talented players play basketball.

And why wouldn’t fans be lured to the WNBA? Just check out the amazing star power on our team alone. Time and time again, Elena Delle Donne showed why she is a perennial Most Valuable Player candidate and one of the top athletes in the world when she endured a rigorous rehab schedule for a nasty bone bruise to lead the squad its first-ever WNBA Finals berth. She is so incredibly fun to watch, and we are so proud she calls Washington, D.C. home.

There are also veteran stars like former Maryland Terrapin standout Kristi Toliver and composed rookies like Ariel Atkins, who showed us just what can happen when teamwork and selflessness take precedence over everything else in the pursuit of fulfilling a team goal…and a lifelong dream.

Congrats to the entire Seattle Storm organization on a tremendous season. I foresee this 2018 WNBA Finals matchup becoming a fun and intense East Coast/West Coast rivalry for many years to come, which is great for the game.

In 2019, while our primary mission will be to bounce back and capture that elusive first WNBA crown, we are arguably most energized about doing it all in a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility, optimized for the WNBA at St. Elizabeths in Ward 8. It will be an incredible fan experience — you will truly feel close to the game.

Get your tickets early and tell your friends, because I can guarantee you it will be loud and energetic for #SticsSZN next year. I can’t wait.
